I wish *tentmakers* would turn their attention back to the tent. Contemporary tents have become like the crenellated shells of some alien species, rather than a simple canvas signifier for "home". I had to turn the retail world and the internet upside down before I could find a simple one-room cabin-tent in which we could stand upright.

Sorry for the late comment.. I enjoyed the article very much. I like the idea of your living space being something malleable and mobile, completely under your control, rather than just an empty space that you occupy.

I've always liked the idea of living in a yurt, as well. Admittedly, at least partly because I like saying the word 'yurt'. So much more beautiful than a tent, with all those rugs.

I live in a loft above a furniture store, in an 80 year old building, and as much as I miss conveniences, I'm content with the cigarette-burned floor and stall shower. It's home.
